ABOUT VDC

who we are

Versatile Dance Company is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization located in Akron, OH that began in July of 2009. The company consists of a group of dancers, male and female, who have an incredible passion and gift for dance, and have decided to take that love to the next level by being a part of VDC. Some members travel multiple hours to attend the rehearsals held in Akron. Under the artistic direction of Mitchel Federan, the company has already worked towards accomplishing goals and achievements that are brand new to the dance world. He and his dancers put their talents to use in the best way possible - by benefiting various local charities and displaying their creations for audiences to enjoy. Every show they create focuses on a topic that will touch peoples' hearts, and also shine light on a charity’s importance. The purpose of VDC is to further spread the art of dance in the area, while raising funds and awareness for charities simultaneously. By using its talents to give generous donations to charities, the company educates the public on just how powerful the art of movement can be.

what we do

Staying true to our name, Versatile Dance Company produces shows in a variety of dance genres

including Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Acrobatics, and more. VDC's group of dancers made their premier on January 10th, 2010 at the Canton Palace Theatre. "Praying For Abbey" was a show in support and awareness of childhood Leukemia. VDC raised $15,000 in this first event for a close friend of the company, Abbey Colbert, age 3, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Northern Ohio. Their next performance took place in August, 2011 entitled “Speaking A Dead Language” which accumulated $10,000 in funds that were donated to two local battered women’s shelters. Their most recent production premiered in August, 2012 and was their most successful event to date. “I, Alone” premiered at the Hanna Theatre in Downtown Cleveland’s PlayhouseSquare District and raised $23,575 for The Autism Center at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. They look forward to continuing their work in the future and hope to raise more funds at each event. VDC pledges to continue to support the arts and keep them thriving for all to see.
